TET MARKET FOLK PAINTINGEXHIBITION

Seeing my potential and dedication, Mr. Tran Quoc Duc invited me to be a translator for the national event, "Tet Market Folk Painting Exhibition" in February 2021.

Since he wasn't familiar with English, and I had a strong grasp of the language due to my background at Newton Grammar School - an famous international school in Hanoi, he encouraged me by saying, "Don't worry, just translate and follow my instructions." I initially thought my role was limited to translating for Western and Chinese guests, but to my surprise, the responsibilities he guided me through were those of a curatorial assistant—something I had long hoped to try.

The event, hosted by the Old Town Committee at Bich Hoa Street in Hanoi's Old Quarter, aimed to revive interest in folk paintings during Tet. I used the 105 Installation method to display traditional artworks from Dong Ho, Hang Trong, and Sinh Village, creating an interactive area for the exhibition. In addition to translating and communicating with international guests, I helped Mr. Tran Quoc Duc prepare materials and instructed visitors on how to create folk paintings tailored to their preferences.

The exhibition was a success, with 57 paintings sold. The event generated a total revenue of 30,000,000 VND, showcasing the enduring appeal of Vietnam's folk art during the festive Tet season.
